So apparently during the 1930's there was a grassroots movement in NorCal to break away from the rest of the state and form their own state of Jefferson. Obviously this never happened, but signs like this one show that this legacy is still a part of the local culture and pride. Even today, it's easy to see a difference between this area and the rest of California - NorCal is rural, agrarian, and pretty conservative.
During some time off from trail work, the group went to another nearby waterfall for some fun. This spot was like a natural waterpark - the most fun thing was the huge log floating in the pool which you can see some of my crew mates sitting on - you would swim up to it and hop on for as long as possible before someone rolled you off. You could also scale the tree going up the waterfall and jump off, or jump from the cliff you see some people standing on to the right - both provided a good rush.
This one's for Keith. Goofy setup, eh?
Jessica what have you done??? I gave this poor guy a proper burial.
